The excitement for the Dexter prequel, Dexter: Original Sin, has officially hit new heights with the release of its first teaser trailer. Fans of the beloved series can look forward to seeing Michael C. Hall once again lend his voice to Dexter Morgan as the show is set to premiere later this year on Paramount+ with Showtime.
The teaser trailer has finally given us a glimpse into what we can expect from this much-anticipated series.
At San Diego Comic-Con earlier this year, the prequel’s opening sequence teased a modern twist on the original’s famous “morning routine” montage, and now the teaser has provided even more insight into the series.
Set in the summer of 1991 in Miami, Dexter: Original Sin introduces us to a young Dexter Morgan, portrayed by Patrick Gibson.
The storyline will track Dexter’s evolution from a college student to the vigilante serial killer known from Jeff Lindsay’s novels and Showtime’s original series. Michael C.
Hall reprises his role as Dexter’s inner voice, guiding us through Dexter’s early life and the internal struggles that come with his murderous inclinations.
The series will delve into Dexter’s tumultuous relationship with his adoptive father, Detective Harry Morgan (Christian Slater), who helps Dexter channel his dark urges into a personal code for targeting the guilty while staying under the radar of law enforcement.
In the 40-second teaser, Hall’s voiceover sets the tone: “I am a killer, but I wasn’t born this way. I was made by my history, by the people around me.”
The montage, filled with rapid cuts and no dialogue, teases Dexter’s involvement with Miami Metro Homicide, showing him at crime scenes and in his iconic wardrobe from the original series. While the teaser keeps specific plot details close to the vest, it successfully builds anticipation for the upcoming series.
We also get a glimpse of Harry Morgan addressing Dexter about controlling his darker side and see Molly Brown as Dexter’s sister Debra, navigating the trials of high school. Brief appearances by familiar faces such as Angel Batista (James Martinez), Vince Masuka (Alex Shimizu), and María LaGuerta (Christina Milian) add a touch of nostalgia.
New cast additions include Patrick Dempsey and Sarah Michelle Gellar, who will play roles within the police department. The teaser concludes with a remix of Benny Benassi’s “Satisfaction” and Hall’s line, “It takes a village to raise a killer.”
Mark your calendars: Dexter: Original Sin is set to stream on Paramount+ with Showtime starting December 13, with its television debut following on December 15.
The 10-episode season, currently in production in Los Angeles, will be released weekly, promising a thrilling addition to the Dexter universe.
