How Chris Hemsworth Helped Tom Holland Become Spider-Man

Chris Hemsworth once revealed that he played a pivotal role in helping Tom Holland secure the iconic role of Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Both Hemsworth and Holland have emerged as prominent stars within the MCU, captivating audiences with their portrayals of Thor and Peter Parker, respectively.

Hemsworth debuted as Thor in 2011, while Holland made his entrance in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War, largely thanks to Hemsworth’s support.

In a memorable interview with Entertainment Tonight, Hemsworth shared, “I mean, look, we worked on In the Heart of the Sea together, obviously, then through Avengers and as they were casting him for Spider-Man, I did what I could do and made a call.

I’ve worked with them, and he said he’s one of the most talented people I’ve worked with and has such a big heart and appreciation. We have a great friendship; it’s a good mutual respect.”

Their friendship blossomed during the filming of Hemsworth’s 2015 project, which paved the way for Holland to join him in Captain America: Civil War.

Following this, Holland earned acclaim in his own standalone films, including Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far From Home, and Spider-Man: No Way Home. He also appeared in major ensemble films like Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.

Holland also discussed his casting experience during an appearance on The Chef Show on Netflix. When Marvel chief Kevin Feige asked about the timeline from his casting to filming, Holland replied,

“It was like four days or something like that. I did the first screen test with [Robert Downey Jr.] and the second screen test with Chris [Evans], and then waited about a month, and then found out and flew straight out.”
