Reagan Box Office Success: Dennis Quaid’s Film Nears Full Budget Recovery

The Dennis Quaid-led Reagan hit theaters on August 30, and it’s already on the verge of covering its entire production budget.

The biographical drama, directed by Sean McNamara and based on Paul Kengor’s novel, shines a spotlight on Ronald Reagan’s life.

Thanks to a strong showing at the North American box office, the film is just inches away from breaking even.

A Perfect Role for Dennis Quaid

Dennis Quaid, known for his roles in films like The Day After Tomorrow and The Parent Trap, delivers an outstanding performance as Reagan.

Awarded a Golden Globe for Far From Heaven and regarded as one of the best actors to never receive an Oscar nomination, Quaid’s portrayal is a key factor in the movie’s success.

Box Office Performance: Strong Numbers on Discount Day

On Discount Day (Tuesday), Reagan pulled in $587K across 2,450 theaters in North America. Despite a slight dip of 11% from the previous week, the film’s total domestic earnings have climbed to $24.17 million.

The movie outperformed industry expectations from its opening weekend, where it earned $7.65 million—above the predicted range of $5 to $7 million.

Just Shy of Breaking Even

The film’s production budget stands at $25 million, meaning it’s only about $830K away from full recovery, with 96.68% of its budget already earned. Internationally, it has contributed $9.5K, bringing its total global earnings to $24.17 million.

Beating the Competition

Reagan has surpassed other star-studded films from this year, such as Channing Tatum’s Fly Me to the Moon ($20.53M) and Henry Cavill’s The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare ($20.54M), solidifying its place as one of the year’s surprise successes.
