Currently the second highest-grossing film in the Alien series, “Alien: Romulus” is poised to fall short of the top spot held by “Prometheus.”
Directed by Fede Alvarez, the 2024 release has garnered critical acclaim and has struck a chord with audiences. It stands as the 10th highest-grossing film of the year, though it may soon be overtaken by “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.”
According to trade analyst Luiz Fernando, “Alien: Romulus” earned $6.3 million internationally over its fifth weekend, bringing its global total to $229.4 million—a drop of 54% from the previous week.
This figure exceeds double its domestic earnings, with the film recently surpassing $100 million in the U.S., now totaling $101.3 million.
The film’s worldwide gross has reached $330.7 million, with projections suggesting it could eventually land between $350 million and $360 million.
With a production budget of $80 million, “Alien: Romulus” has already more than quadrupled its budget, achieving an impressive 291.62% return. It trails only “Prometheus” in the franchise’s earnings, which stands at $404.35 million globally.
“Alien: Romulus” features an up-and-coming cast led by Cailee Spaeny, with notable performances from David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Isabela Merced, Spike Fearn, and Aileen Wu.
Released on August 16, the film follows a group of young space colonists who encounter the most fearsome life form in the universe while exploring a derelict space station.
